Kev, thanks, nice to be back.
Actually I have found Win7 comparatively easy surprisingly. Only problem I have encountered so far is that some programs won't "Pin" to the task bar.

There's a trick to that Buzzy........I actually wrote a little tut on it on my website here. It tells how to get those stubborn ones to pin. The last paragraph has the info on the stubborn ones.

Thanks Rusin - I sorta figured out how to get the 'difficult' ones to pin to taskbar.
Elvis, I will stick with Win7 thanks mate, I like it. Linux does not appeal to me whatsoever - sorry.

Until Win7 came out, I used XP from its concept and all my peripherals worked without any snags. I wonder how many Linux versions came out in all that time and how many of them worked. I have tried many distros over the years and none of them would do everything, there was always some hangup or another. It the old concept of too many cooks spoil the broth and the right hand not knowing what the left is doing.

Its a new system designed for new computers Elvis. If you have peripherals that are a bit dated, the makers dont bother to update the drivers. They are looking to sell you a new printer, scanner or whatever. Its not the OS thats at fault, its the greedy peripheral makers. Sometimes you can install the drivers for an upgraded version of your device and it will work. You just have to lie to the computer and make it think its running something its not. I had to do that all the time with the XP x 64 BETA, way back in the early days. There were practically no drivers for it, but I did get everything working. XP x 86 was a dream come true in regards to drivers and I couldn't understand how 64 bit was so neglected.
My HP all in one printer was discontinued in the UK when I bought it, but it was still being sold in the States. The new version still uses the same drivers, except it has the wireless built in. Although mine is a bit dated now, I've not had any trouble with it. PCI cards also need to be a bit newish although they dont need to be top of the range.
Linux will run on older gear. If people are too tight to pay for a decent OS, they are not going to upgrade their hardware very often. Thats why there are these little light distros that will run on computers made for Windows 95.

Thanks Tel, would you believe it is made using a content management system.... I can code a site myself, but I wanted to be able to access the admin from anywhere and this gives me that option. That and it is a time saver too.
I've been happy with W7 thus far. I've only had a few issues, but I was beta testing it on an old computer. I got W7 beta to run on an AMD 1.7 ghz with only 1 GB of ram. The video was at the bare minimum too lol. It ran great once I sorted the old hardware issues out. I never liked an OS from the get-go like that before but I liked W7 from the start. ;D ;D ;D

Yeah your running 64 bit Linux on a new machine Elvis; but a lot of people are running Puppy on machines that Julius Caesar's men left behind, when they went back to Rome. There's not any way in hell that Win7 is gonna run on them. Thats what I said, Windows develops along with technology, but they are still turning out distros for misers.
