I have two photo's of my Grandaughter Beth, both taken with all the same gear, at the same time and place. This first one was edited by Vickie on our return home using Photoshop Elements 9, and the second one was edited by me yesterday using the same program.
What I want to know is, how do they compare? Vic's is a lot paler and granier than mine, and mine has a bit more colour. I need to know if i'm on the right track, or if Vickie's is more pleasing to the eye. It's all in the eye of the beholder I guess.

Vickies would look great printed on linen finish Kev, but I think it needs a tad of noise taken out and that might smooth it out a little bit. Not using the same program as you, it a job to say how to correct it. I think yours would certainly look the better of the two printed on gloss. She certainly looks cute in the one that Vickie played with, I can see why she picked it. Printing it smaller than it is, might be enough to smooth it out.

Vic played with it a lot Ken, and added noise as a result. I might have a go at it myself, and see if I can lessen the noise and add a little more colour to the features. You will notice that her eyes are blue in my edit, where Vic has managed to take the colour out of them in hers... Don't get me wrong, it's a nice 'cute' shot, but over edited I think.

Ok, I played with it, and put the two edited shots side by side, and enlarged to see the noise, and this is the result.
My edit looks like this, and I believe it can still be improved.

Heres my contribution Kev. I couldn't bring the blue eyes out without ruining something else. The blueness of eyes vary with light antway, so I didn't think it was too important.

Yeah, unfortunately Ken, you had to work with the shot I posted that Vickie edited already. If there was no blue there to begin with, it's hard to put it back, unless you add it yourself. The noise is still very evident in your shot, though not as pronounced as Vic's.
I have the original saved on my hard drive, so I was able to take the raw shot and play with it quite a bit. If I was better at PSE9, i'd be able to make it look a bit better than I did, but i'm still in the learning curve.

I printed my picture on A4 with a 2cm border and that was enough to get rid of the noise. Putting 2 photos on an A4 sheet in Publisher, not only got rid of the noise but made the eyes look more blue. Not a deep blue, but enough to show they were definately blue and not brown. I was very pleased with the way they looked printed at A5. A printed picture is what your looking for I think and not a picture on a computer screen. No matter how good a monitor is, they dont always show an exact colour match to the printer. Or perhaps its the printer doesn't always match the monitor. I need to transfer the picture to Molly and print with my HP Officejet and compare both sets of pictures. Not that I have ever found any difference in the past between the 2 printers.

Another attempt to give granddad his blue eyes. This was achieved surgically, transplanting corneas from one picture to the other.

I resized that picture you did Kev and took the eyes from it. It didn't seem to matter how much I took the colour out before cloning, they still looked like a couple of headlights. I still haven't discovered how to get round that yet. I put the colour in softly softly, but it either doesn't show or it sudden shows too bright.

One eye up, the other straight ahead, and both looking like evil demon eyes... you should have made them red Ken.

I give up now, this is as blue as I can get them and keep them looking natural. I added group layers of the original eyes at 25% over the headlights. It just allows a little bit of blue to shine through. I looks OK in print as well.

It prints alright at that Kev, but I'm only trying it on ordinary paper and not gloss. I cant take the noise out any more than that. I can take the noise out, but then it becomes too soft looking. Theres probably a niche for it in an art gallery, but generally people want their photos to look clear and sharp.

I think I know how to add more colour to eyes now, without altering the rest of the picture.
