Bit hard to put a price on it Jorg. A lot of the components I had already, thankfully. The motherboard, processor and ram cost in the vicinity of $850.00. The case originally cost me about $295.00 plus another $195.00 for the PSU, The burners were $76.00, the three hard drives about $330.00, the graphics card, about $145.00, and the rest of the bits and bobs, about $100.00. That totals up to around $1991.00 just for the tower and internal components. Now, for the rest of the kit, don't ask....hehehehe

Definitely the tidiest computer I have ever seen. I'm writing this with W7, I've actually got it working this time.

Awww shucks KC ! Ta for the compliment mate ! I knew how I wanted it to look and with a little modification to the case, I achieved it. It's a pity that the SATA data cables are so long, and as I have learned from bitter experience, you cant fold and zip tie them out of the way. They have to be allowed to have curves, not sharp bends. Unfortunately, I ran all the SATA data cables before I purchased my motherboard. The yellow ones have clips on the ends making them a good firm fit. The red ones were all I had at the time for the burners. If I had waited until I bought the mobo, there were red data cables included in there with right angle connectors on one end. That would have made things a litte more tidy than they are now, but hey, i'm happy with it the way it is. I have spent all day installing updates and programs. Currently, I'm installing Adobe Photoshop CS3 Master Collection Edition. Thanks Ray ! Next one to install is Pinnacle Studio 8, then i'm almost done. I'll be very interested to hear how Windows 7 goes for you this time KC. I'm hanging out for all these "Family Photo's" from pommie land to arrive... lol

Thanks Dave. I know it's not i7 powered, but the finances didn't permit that sort of build. It's bloody fast anyway, and from all the reports I have read, much faster than anything AMD has to offer currently, including their new Phenom II range. It's going to have to last for a number of years now as I think a computer should last about 4 years before needing to be upgraded. SOQ was almost that old, but is still a very fast machine as Vickie is about to find out. All i'm waiting for is the ram manufacturers to produce some 4 gig sticks of DDR3 1600. Then "Panorama" will rock with 16 gig of the stuff in it.

I thought you might have got the disks by now Kev, but I don't know just how long it takes for mail to get to Oz.
I have taken the hard drive bays out of the twin case to the one The Beast is in. I have got a few holes to drill to refit, so I left it till tomorrow. The guy downstairs might object if I start drilling at 10 at night. Then it will be the same style as Panorama, with the HDDs thwart ships. Then most of my cables will be hidden in the back like yours. With a windowed mod case, it will look 500% better. I'm hoping my Zalman Ultra Flower heat-sink, with a 110mm x110mm x 25mm fan will arrive tomorrow. Making it an ideal time to change cases. With all the LEDs it will look like a Roman Candle when its running.
I have found the HD4870 does fit on the bottom primary PCI-E slot, giving better mobo cooling and freeing up the 2nd PCI slot.
Thanks for showing the photos and giving me the ideas.

No Probs mate... Glad I was able to inspire you guys to greater things....lol.
A clean, tidy, well organised computer runs better, cooler, and more efficiently when it's built right !
You should see some of the things I get here to repair, for example, the one I had here yesterday was put together by a monkey i'm sure. It looked like someone had taken the sides off, and just threw everything into it, and slapped the sides back on before it all fell out ! I would have been embarrased to have laid claim to "building" it.
These days, the bottom line is "time equals money", unfortunately....

Speaking of money, my new build cost me $1760 for the case and all the stuff inside. With the 42 inch lcd monitor it finished out right at $2500 US. Just out of curiosity I am wondering how much a build like that would have cost in OZ (parts only, of course)

I'll have a look at the components Dave, and work out just how much it would have cost to buy here. Stay tuned !

Here in the UK Dave, it would cost you best part of that for the monitor alone. As for the computer, just change the $ for a £.

Ok, here it is. Your case and it's innards only.
Mobo .......... $425.00 Processor .... $469.00 Ram............ $445.00 PSU............. $212.00 Vid card ...... $415.00 Hard drives . $144.00 DVD Burner . $27.00 Case ........... $203.00
Making a total of $2340.00 AU or $1570.44 US I could have saved you $190.00 US by getting the parts here Dave....lol[/color][/b][/i]

"Panorama" may still be reasonably fast, but the graphics card is letting it down. ASUS were supposed to be one of the better brands of graphic card, but this one is pretty crappy, so it's going to be replaced as soon as finances permit. I think it will be replaced with an ATI Radeon 4870, but that may change. Stay tuned !
