When I first moved here 20 odd years ago, this was just a weed growing out of a crack in the path. It only blooms about a week each year and the gardeners have a bad habit of chopping it about. The more they chop it down, the bigger and better it gets.

Not sure it's a weed Ken I think it's a very pretty plant, can't remember the name!

I call it my weed Ann, because of the way it grew out of a crack in the concrete. I dont remember ever seeing it before, except a couple of others in this area. Not sure of how to properly identify it, except by chance. With the correct pruning, it would grow into a tree. I have tried taking cuttings without success, but it roots itself easily if layered. Nothing much wants to grow where its growing; its 12 foot deep of brickbats and hardcore, with a few inches of soil on top.

Thanks Ann, I would love to know what it is. It makes a lovely bush, its a pity it flowers for such a short time.

Looks a bit on the weedy side to me, but I am no gardener, my wife always took charge of the garden, I just cut the grass.
