The engineer fitted 2 new hard drive are u able to tell me how does this work as in my case it doesn't work at all? I scanned 4 family pics earlier and I did watch where they were going but it took me an age to find them. i nearly gave up.

Without knowing what he did and how he went about it Ann, you know as much as I do.
Anyway you dont need to put in new drives, you just clean up and reuse the ones you had. Thats probably what he did and just charged you for new ones.
If he did put in new drives, did he put in the same or bigger ones??
What I would have done is put in a clean/new drive, install Windows and your favourite programs. Then I would scan your personal files and folders and transfer them to the clean drive, or to another clean drive if one is used for storage. When putting all your files back, they might not be stored the same as you had them and you might have to look for them. Once you have found them, you can put them in new folders and so you can easily find them in the future.
An image could be made of your files and installed exactly as you had them. Doing it that way, it would be easier to miss a nasty and he has probably done it the safer way. I expect all your stuff is there, but you will have to sort it out.

Quite honestly I could chuck the main PC my son (eldest) was here yest trying to do what I had tried the day previous al was hunky dory then he 2 lost the pics just scanned, I am going to try again later but I really don't want to spend hours looking for 1 pic only to lose it again. The aforementioned engineer was rubbish, I trusted him as he is a neighbour of my daughter he said he was a qualified MSN engineer (maybe that's the problem) PC came back to me with backup folders I wasn't allowed to open I had to go back to him. He told me he had given me 2 HD drives nothing more with regard to information.

All your personal files should be in them folders he told you not to open Ann; but if he used an imaging program, you wont make any sense out of the files. Double click a folder and have a look, the worse that can happen is it will tell you they cant be opened.

Something I learned a few years ago, don't let friends or neighbours near my computer.
