I could make a few comments but having only just come into this thread I dont know how I can pinpoint the shot I am referring to, could we have numbers in future but you might regret it one of these images could do with straightening. Its the 5th 6th and 7th image I see with a sloping horizon. AND the colour is out on the 4th picture, best try and keep things the way we see them for real IMHO

Are you using Raw convertor in PS (I am a little confused to the photographer responsible here) if you use the raw convertor, at the top you have a choice of auto, as shot, custom and various others, click on each and see which works best for you when editing your pics but not if its Ken as I can see your not using PS

Yeah Ann. It makes it hard when all that is required is a critique of a shot, and it turns into a "looky what I can do with it" sort of thread.... ;D No offence meant here, but all that's required on the Critique board is an opinion of what to do, and what not to do in future.
The 5th, and 7th shots do have a slope to it, as it's on the side of a hill. Toowoomba is all hills and valleys. It wasn't a shot I liked anyway. The 4th one was Kens interpretation of my previous photo..

I use Coral PSP Photo Pro Ultimate X 2 Ann and have never used Photoshop. Coral might not be as good as Adobe, but its exellent for what I usually use it for. My best pictures are made and not taken, I must have been a forger in a past life. Anyway I thought the idea is to take the photos properly in the first place and then you dont need to alter them. Film sorts the men out from the boys, but even that is politically incorrect.

That's the age old story Ken. It was said that If you got one really good shot from a roll of 36 exposure film, you had done well. You could play with them during processing, adjusting colour balance etc, but most had to be taken well and composed well in the original shot.
It makes it so easy these days to repair a photo that was overexposed with RAW format. Editing and other 'masks' etc, can be employed to create a picture that looks totally different to the original shot.

I've just got some small 64 year old pictures from my mother Kev, with luck I might be able to scan and print them at a decent size. I scan at high resolution and save as Tiff. Then a little bit of damage reparation and I can usually get a reasonable print. I try not to over repair, they don't look right if they look too new.

NO offence taken Kev - not all of my pics are of the best quality so I expect some critique myself at times.

Shadows are important to any picture, yours are just in the wrong place Kev, you can lift them a tad using photoshop but again Topaz do an adjustment filter and you can trial it before you buy, I use it sometimes but as I get more clever with CS I am finding I don't use it as much. It takes a while to get your head around some of the tools in CS but practise and remember in advance composition! Try and get the sun or light to the side of you and try not to shoot into the sun. Behind you will cause shadow!!!
If interested you can go to Flickr look for pluckyfilly and view my images some are not bad if I say it myself.

This is an ages old thread Ann, from Jan 2012. I would hope that my expertise is a tad better since those days. Back then, I was still trying to sort out camera/lens combinations, and learn editing with Elements 9. I've moved on a bit since then and have a reasonable knowledge of editing with LightRoom 5.4, plus have moved to Canon from Nikon since these previous shots were taken, much to some peoples dismay. I am at one with all my Canon gear now, and have over $27,000.00 worth of cameras, lenses, and accessories, and a good working knowledge of everything in the arsenal.

Hahaha, no worries Ann. I'm not the guy I was two years ago either. I have a passion for photography, and am very self critical of my efforts these days.
