Here is another picture of St Marys Church. I took loads of pictures of the church, from the same seat outside the pub across the road and more or less the same time each day. I haven't gone religious, I was trying to catch the way the sun caught it just before dusk. The flag pole is a pain, as it leans to the left, the road runs down and the sign on the grass is well bent.. Its not worth trying to straighten it up, as the ones I took with the church straight don't look right. The ancient Hawthorn trees should make Kev think theres a church in his creek, particularly the one on the right. There are thousands of pictures and paintings of the church, but not from where I was sitting. I like it just as it is, now I want the rest of you to pick holes in it. I might even have another picture the same as you would like to see it and comparing the two might convince you why I like this one. On the other hand I could be convinced, that you are right.

I hate bloody date stamps. They are a pain to remove so I didn't. But, I sorta did a quick job to get rid of the pole, which was bloody distracting. I did a feeble attempt to enhance the pic with PSE9 but as i'm still learning how to do this, it really wasn't that good an effort. At least the dark shadows are gone, but now the trees are a bit too light. (I'm still learning ... lol)
The basic shot was good Ken, and followed the rule of thirds, but the pole and the picture tilt was all wrong. My eye is drawn to the cross initially, as it stands out against the background well.

On the second shot done over with PSP Ken, it also took some of the clarity and sharpness away with it, and did nothing to lighten the dark shadows and bushes. I have severed all ties with PSP9. I had been using it to do my pics before meeting up with Ray and the camera club 'peers'.
It's full on learning how to use Photoshop Elements 9 from now on. It has some wonderful tools. I also have a full version of Photoshop CS5 Extended and some of the tools in that program are bloody amazing.
Still, it's baby steps for now with PSE9, and the trick is, to take a picture that doesn't need much editing in the first place, like we had to try to do with film cameras, using Ektachrome slide film. Once you have taken the shot using that, there isn't any ability to edit the shot. What you took, is what you got, and you didn't know just what until they came back from processing.

It's been over three days now since this post was put up for critiquing. Well, I picked holes in it as you asked Ken, and so far, i'm the only one.....
I told you what I felt to be my personal observations of the shot, and gave suggestions. That's my input for what it's worth. I am only one person, so, I would like to see others comment on it as well, but if it doesn't happen, then the critique board might as well not be here.
This board is for everyones input, novice or advanced photographer, but as I said in my warning, if you can't take criticism, then don't post anything to it. We don't want to offend anyone, but if you want an honest apprasial of your photo's, post away.

I think PSP and PhotoShop have taken the true artistry out of photography Kev. Thats why your true greats are still using film. If you pay 10 grand for a photo, you own the negative as well. If you want the printing rights to go with your photo, you will probably pay a £million. The ones that don't give you the negative are not photographers, they are blackmailers. Even blackmail has changed; its not send the photos to your wife anymore, its I'll plaster you all over the net. The tragedy is, you can make anybody do anything now. Might not fool the experts, but a few people have jumped out of windows.
I'm surprised more people haven't joined in the Rip the Arse out of the Picture game.

I think they are all scared of upsetting us Ken. I tell it as I see it, but everyones opinion is different, and that is what we want to hear, their opinions. So come on folks, tell us yours, just so we can get the feedback we need to produce better photographs.
