Ever considered that up to 20 meg download is terrific, but the reality is not so..? To check your MTU setting: the higher the mtu the larger the packet size of data can be downloaded in one go. If the number is low, your pc will take longer to receive data than it should. The recommended number is 32767. On checking, mine was 11000 odd. Goto www.dslreports.com/drtcp , download and execute the file. No installation required. Change the number if required and save. You must restart networking to enable. In XP, start/control panel/network connections/lan/disable. Selecting this again will re-enable. tel.

Thanks Tel.
I checked mine, as I'm on 20 Mb cable. My Top Receive Window was 1045440, which is a wee bit higher than 32767. I tried their Tweak Tester and I tested out at 100%, so I don't think I can get it better than that.
This morning when I downloaded Windows 7 for Kev, I started downloading just after 10.30. The total of the 2 downloads was about 6 gig and I had them burned to disks by midday. I don't think my connection is working too bad now.
I'm using a Marvell Yukon PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller.
