I was wondering how you all were getting on dealing with the ash cloud over there.

It was an odd looking sunset last night, but nothing worth photographing. I will get some pictures tonight, if the clouds look good. Sunsets are my speciality.
We are handling it very well Judy, illegal immigration has dropped right off through the lack of airplanes.

I never did get any pictures. The sun sets behind a hill and is out of sight before I see any real sunset. All I got to see was a very pale pink too pale to photograph and then it just went black. The night when all the planes were flying again, there was some real clouds and a nice sunset again. Living high up; if I had a true horizon, I might have got some good ones. Looks like I'm going to have to wait for another eruption.

The beauty of any sunset will do Ken. Sod that volcano erupting again, it might hit all who suffer with breathing difficulties next time. Just as a matter of interest I was on the SS Mauretania in 1964 and we were doing a North Cape cruise to the land of the midnight Sun. On our our way either to or from Iceland we sailed close to an underwater volcanic eruption. Black smoke and ash covered many square miles and out of that, an island was born. It's name is Surtsey. www.vulkaner.no/n/surtsey/esurtmenu.htmlTony

I was on the Maury 1962-63 for the West Indies cruises out of New York finishing with a Med and Black Sea Cruise Tony. When I got back to Southampton in 63 I did the maiden voyage on the Carmania out of Clydebank and then the North Cape cruise on the Coronia. I did it again in 1965 but on the Coronia not the Maury. I joined the Maury when she came down from Liverpool in 1962 with her port side painted green and the starboard side was still black. She was the first one to get her colours changed to cruising green. The Coronia was always green. ( The Green Goddess ) The winter of 64-65 I did the West Indies cruises out of Fort Lauderdale on the Carmania. We met up with The Coronia one trip in Lauderdale after she had been on fire for 3 days and got towed in. Lauderdale was still a village in them days. They were still building the dock were us and the Franconia tied up, the first two ships to cruise out of there.
