It's hard to get anyone motivated enough to get off their ass and do anything around Laidley. Most people who are on welfare can work, but choose not to because it's easier to sit and watch TV and collect their handout from the government, than go and get their hands dirty doing gardening or washing cars etc.
The guy who helped Mick and I get the new refrigerator upstairs the other day, Dave, offered to do our gardening and lawns for $40.00 a week. Initially, to get the garden and lawns in some sort of condition, he wanted $100.00. Well, the guy has worked his butt off today, and he and his wife and son, are coming back later today to finish things off. It's too hot to work in the sun at the moment at 34ÂșC, so he's coming back at around 3:00pm when it's a bit cooler. In the meantime, I have to go empty the trailer, and pick up another load of potting mix from the landscapers yards.
Here's some before and afters...

Here's the gardening crew. Even 'little' Millie (sitting on Dad's lap) got into it and got her hands dirty.
Dave's wife, Kel, told me that this was the first family photo that they have ever had taken...

Looks like you got a good crew there Kev. They certainly didn't waste any time and got the job done.

They knocked off at around 11:00am during the middle of the day because it was screaming hot, and returned at around 4:00PM and finished the gardens off. Dave mowed the grass on Friday last, and it needs doing again already.
Dave is a Pro fighter, and has spent time travelling to bouts all over the world. He still trains today, but doesn't fight any more.
It's crazy weather we are having lately. Storms, very hot sunshine, rain when you least expect it....

Dave was back today doing the lawn and gardens. Geez it's nice to know that there is a reliable person doing what needs to be done without question. I was in Brisbane this morning, and when I arrived home, Dave and his son Zac were pulling weeds out of the front garden that had regrown since last weekend.

Unfortunately, I've been let down AGAIN. Promises mean nothing if they aren't honoured!... I should have know better.
Now we are out of pocket because we gave them a washing machine when they really needed it, with the opportunity to pay it off by doing work on our yard and gardens.
They are currently having a marital spat, and other things are taking importance over our generosity!... Now i'm going to cop heaps from Vickie for being 'naive' once again....
I like to look for the good in people, but now days, that is not an option anymore. Very disappointing!

Just can't take a trick eh Kev? I'm sure there'll be someone who can actually keep a promise to do the right thing eventually. So disappointing when you consider the bagging he gave "uncle pervy" about HIS failure to deliver.
